Permanent Makeup

Who is permanent makeup for?

Permanent makeup is for people of all ages, Both women and men. People who have permanent make can do so for numerous reasons, including those who simply want to look their best at all times, to individuals who need corrective enhancement for medical reasons (injury or facial disfigurement).

Others who may also decide to have permanent makeup are:

  • People with allergies to conventional make-up
  • Busy mums on the go with little time to apply make-up daily
  • Ladies or men with thin, translucent or poorly defined lips
  • Those who require correction of asymmetrical uneven facial features
  • Swimmers, runners, or those that use the gym and dread their makeup smearing
  • Those with physical complications or disability which make the application of conventional make-up challenging.
Will it hurt?

Each individual has different pain receptors and pain thresholds however the treatment is performed with your comfort in mind. A topical aesthetic is applied before and throughout the treatment to minimalize discomfort. Some clients have reported that they actually find eyebrow threading more painful than eyebrow tattooing. At the most the treatment may feel a little scratchy but our treatments are never unbearable, most clients find the procedure very relaxing and often some clients actually fall asleep.

Will you shave my eyebrows off?

Many people’s preconception is that the eyebrows are removed prior to a treatment, this is in fact, untrue. Permanent makeup is all about working with your natural brow hair to enhance the shape and not drastically change it. As the needle channels the hair stroke into the skin it will simply just push your own hair out of the way meaning there is no reason at all for your eyebrow hair to be completely removed.

Can I return to work immediately after my treatment?

Yes of course! Immediately post procedure, the treatment area may feel a little swollen and the colour will appear slightly darker – subject to your skin type. Many of my clients have the treatment done during their lunch break, before returning to work. The colour will look a touch darker for 3-4 days before the colour begins to soften. It takes up to 6 weeks for the pigment to resurface in the skin and the true colour to appear. It is advised that you do not drive immediately after having an eyeliner treatment and that alternative transport arrangements are made.

Will my eyebrows look like thick, black slugs?

Absolutely not! It’s important to remember that, as in all industries , there is amazing work and completely terrible work. This is why it is imperative that you do your research on your artist by checking their portfolio, reviews, qualification and experience to ensure they are a competent permanent makeup artist who can deliver a high quality of work.

As an elite permanent makeup artist my reputation is built on creating natural and subtle enhancements for all of my clients. My work replicates natural hair growth to give a seamless transition between hair strokes and natural eyebrow hair for a beautiful every day appearance! We have all seen photos online of the dreaded Black Slugs, however that is a product of poor/cheap training, lack of knowledge and sub-standard products. Take a look at my portfolio to see many more of my before and after transformations.

Can I choose my shape and colour?

Prior to any permanent makeup treatment an in-depth consultation is always carried out so I can find out what you hope to achieve from the treatment. I put your vision into designing a flattering set of eyebrows that you will love. All of the eyebrows I create for my clients are unique and bespoke to the individual taking my client’s features, face shape and preference into account. Before beginning any treatment, I always draw on a shape using my pencil. I work together with my clients to create a shape and style that we are both happy with. I have over 12 shades of brown that we can choose from. Only Once my client and I are both fully satisfied will I then begin the treatment.

Can I wear make-up after the treatment?

Yes, it is possible to apply makeup around the treated area immediately after a treatment, however, you must avoid any products, creams or ointments directly covering the treated area until the skin is fully healed.

How long will the treatment take?

For all permanent cosmetic treatments please allow 2 hours. Although this can often be much less, I don’t like my clients or myself to feel rushed or under pressure to finish for a certain time.

Is Microblading a tattoo?

There are lots of myths and misinformation when it comes to this question, however the answer is yes!

Microblading comes under the umbrella of ‘Permanent makeup’. Microblading is also known and referred to as, microstroking, Nano blade, 3D permanent brows, 4D Brows, eyebrow embroidery etc – They are all form of cosmetic tattooing/Permanent makeup they are just different names used for the same procedure. With the sudden popularity and media attention to the term microblading, many are led to believe microblading is not a tattoo process. The permanent cosmetic application uses tiny needles and various techniques and tools that implant pigments into the skin for a more defined shape. Any time colour, pigment or ink is placed into the skin with any device, it is a tattoo process. Since the pigment is being implanted into the skin it must be considered permanent, and yes, it is a tattoo regardless of what you may hear.

What is permanent make-up?

Permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing. It’s a revolutionary treatment designed to enhance natural beauty by defining the eyebrows, lips and eyes. By implanting colour (pigment) into the upper layer of dermis in the skin this treatment creates beautiful long-lasting effects perfect for an ‘every day’ occasion. Permanent make-up (PMU) is also referred to as semi-permanent make-up (SMPU), micropigmentation, Micoblading and cosmetic tattooing.

How is the procedures carried out?

During your initial consultation, we will discuss your expectations and what you hope to achieve from the procedure. Naomi will design your bespoke enhancement by drawing it on so you can envision the end result as well as showing you a selection of pigments (colours) for your procedure. Before any permanent makeup treatment can take place, you will be required to have a patch or scratch test to ensure your body does not react to the pigment or aesthetic. You will also be required to complete a medical health form to check that you don’t have any contraindications to having a treatment done. If necessary, a consultation can be done over the phone if you are travelling from a long distance. A patch test & instructions can then be sent out to you in the post.

We welcome our clients to come and meet Naomi and our clinic room for a free no obligation consultation. Once you have decided to go ahead with a treatment, a £50 non-refundable booking fee is required in order to secure your appointment. This can be paid via our online booking system, in the clinic by cash or card on the day or your consultation, or via bank transfer. The non-refundable booking fee is redeemable against the full treatment price.

Upon the first appointment for your treatment you will be required to fill out some additional forms once they are completed, we will discuss in depth your desired colour & shape – this will be meticulously drawn on and precisely measured to your face shape and features. All initial permanent makeup treatments are 2-hour slots. Once the procedure is complete, you will be provided with a free Aftercare balm and instructions on how to care for the treated area over the coming weeks. Naomi will also thoroughly explain this to you and you will be given a contact number and email address that you can call, text or email 7 days a week; should you have any concerns.
The full remaining balance of the treatment is due on the day of your first procedure. (Your booking fee is redeemable against the treatment price)

4-6 weeks after your initial treatment you will return to have your retouch (which is included in the price). The retouch is a minimum of 4 weeks after your first treatment to ensure the skin has fully healed and the true colour will be visible. This appointment is an evaluation session where Naomi will take a look at the healed result and any amendments of the shape and colour can be made if necessary, (You may decide to go slightly darker in colour or thicker in shape) During retouch, Naomi will check the colour and reinforce and any missing areas of colour. The retouch appointment takes on average 1 hour to complete.

The same healing process of keeping the area completely dry, no itching, picking, rubbing and keeping the treated area free of products for 2 weeks will apply for the retouch session.

For the majority of my clients I recommend an annual colour boost once every 12 months to refresh the colour. A colour boost is one session only, they are available up to 18 months – once this time has exceeded you will need to book back in for an initial treatment as the area will have significantly faded by time. Please let us know if you would like to receive colour boost reminders.

Permanent make-up will fade over time. Factors that affect fading are sun exposure, skin undertone, clients age, and frequency of using chemical peels, medication and other lifestyle influences.
